How to Bond Someone Out of Alachua County Jail
If someone has been arrested in Gainesville or elsewhere in Alachua County, start by confirming the booking and current bond status. Alachua County publishes detailed release rules, including when and how surety bonds are accepted.
The basic process
The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office says bonds can be posted at the jail lobby window between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., with an after-hours service window available to the left of the jail’s front entrance. Before anything is posted, confirm that the defendant is actually eligible for the type of release you are trying to arrange.
Confirm the booking
Use the official ACSO inmate search. You can search by last name, first name and/or booking number, and incomplete names are accepted.
Review every charge and bond
Make sure you account for every listed charge, case and hold. A separate no-bond matter or detainer can block release.
Use a registered bonding agency for a surety bond
ACSO states that surety bonds must be written through a certified bonding agency registered with both the Alachua County Clerk of Court and ACSO.
Allow time for release processing
After the legal release requirements are met, Booking Support and jail staff still have to verify the documents and complete release procedures.
What to have ready when you call
- Defendant’s full legal name
- Date of birth
- Booking number if available
- Every listed charge and case number
- Bond amount for each charge
- Any known warrants, probation issues, detainers or holds
The Alachua County Jail is located at 3333 NE 39th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32609. ACSO lists the Department of the Jail number as (352) 491-4444.
What ACSO says about surety bonds
For a surety bond release, ACSO requires the inmate to use a certified bonding agency that is registered to write bonds in Alachua County. ACSO also verifies the charge, case information, bond power, expiration, signatures and related paperwork before release processing can move forward.
ACSO separately states that a surety bond may not contain more than one charge. That makes it important to identify every charge and bond amount before the paperwork is prepared.
What if the person has not bonded out before first appearance?
ACSO says all new arrestees appear before a judge within 24 hours of intake. At first appearance, the court can address release conditions and other case issues. If a defendant cannot be released before then, the judge’s decision may change the bond or conditions that existed immediately after booking.
Bond is already available
A licensed, properly registered bonding agency may be able to prepare a surety bond once the booking and bond requirements are confirmed.
Judicial review is required
The case may need first appearance or another hearing before release conditions are settled.
There is a hold or detainer
Even a valid bond may not result in release until the separate hold is resolved.
Release documents are being verified
ACSO says the release process involves the Clerk of Court, Security and Booking staff, so several verifications may be required.
